'Quotes are nothing but inspiration for the uninspired'

Whilst I take forever and an age to type up a new offering (let's blame football - Kaka!), I ask what are your favourite quotes on the subject of cinema? And if we concur, they may pop up on the quotes page someday, somewhere, somehow...

'It's all just one film to me. Just different chapters' - Robert Altman.

I do miss his films.

  1. "Never judge a book by its movie." ~J.W. Eagan

"Because there is so little room for expression otherwise, a lot of people love cinema because they find it a way of expressing themselves."
    Mohsen Makhmalbaf

"Now more than ever we need to talk to each other, to listen to each other and understand how we see the world, and cinema is the best medium for doing this."
    Martin Scorsese

"All entertainment is or is about to become old-fashioned. There is room for something new.” -Steve Martin (from his memoir: Born Standing Up)

    Fun post! Love reading quotes!!

  2. "Cinema is 24 frames of truth per second and every cut is a lie" Jean-Luc Godard

  3. "A good movie is three great scenes and no bad ones"-Howard Hawkes

"The movies are so rarely ever great art that if we can't appreciate great trash there's no point in going."-Pauline Kael

  4. Merci Wild Celtic and Mike - splendid words.

  5. Oooo, ooo.. I've got another one! I found it by looking at Julianne Moore's page b/c Nathaniel at Film Experience is interviewing her soon.

"I'm looking for the truth. The audience doesn't come to see you, they come to see themselves." -Julianne Moore
